Disco Rig.
Another mad project that I started was a disco rig. I absolutely love speakers and there design. I crave for better sounding clearer speakers that produce sounds that blow you away. If you look at my homemade speakers page you will see that I have even built a speaker that sounds great but is also designed to blow you away with its looks!
years ago I bought a set of PA speakers from eBay just because they were big and would go loud. I knew very little back then and this would be the starting point for my speaker obsession.
Since then I have bought many new speakers some huge and some small. As my speaker 'collection' started to grow people started to become interested in them so slowly I started doing parties for friends and relatives with my cheap Soundlab speakers and a HiFi amplifier. It was only when I really started looking at other peoples rigs that my disco rig took off.
Now my collection of DMX Scanning lights, Speakers and audio equipment is rather big for someone who was still in sixth form and only did it 'for fun'
Below: This is the first ever rig I made. It running 2x15" Soundlab full range speakers, 2x10" Skytec full range speakers, 1Kw Sounlab 2ch PA amp, Custom lighting control, 2ch Mixer, Laptop + Dell pc, 2x Genni Lighting effects, 1x ZagDot LED disco effect & 1x Moonflower Effect.
The rig was simple but effective for small venues.
Below: The set slowly grew, more speakers were added, more powerful amps and audio processing harware was introduced and lights were now controlled by DMX.
The set up below had all of what is displayed above but with the addition of: 2x Soundlab 15" Full range speakers, a 3rd Genni Lighting effect now all controlled via DMX, 1x DSC2 Lighting effect, 4 coloured floods controlled by a stand alone controler, 1x 2.8Kw Numark Dimension4 Amplifier, Behringer limiter, 4ch mixer with effects etc, new sony laptop and a Radio Mic + Mini Mic mixer. The cabinet was also made allot smaller and compact.
Below: We have since donw many events with the disco including, Normal discos, PA jobs for Smith Industries, Village Fetes, School Discos and a School Karaoke.
